Hi, UM Griz families and friends! Today, we're highlighting Dr. Jeff Adams, the Medical Director at Curry Health Center. Dr. Adams has worked at UM as a physician since 2000 and has been the medical director of Curry Health Center for six years.

Q: What medical services does Curry offer?

A: Curry offers UM students walk-in and scheduled appointments right on campus. The medical staff can see students for various problems, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, athletic injuries, chronic pain, asthma, diabetes, upper respiratory tract illnesses, and reproductive care, among other things. There's also a lab and x-ray on-site to assist staff in evaluating patients.

Q: How does Curry impact students' success at UM?

A: Curry Health Center’s mission is to provide high-quality medical care, thereby maintaining students’ health and continued UM enrollment. Medical illness or injury shouldn't get in the way of academic success, and Curry helps students get the treatment they need so that poor health doesn't derail their participation in academics and campus life.

Q: What are some common misconceptions about Curry?

A: Some students aren't sure if they can use Curry Health Center if they don't have a specific type of insurance, but every registered student who attends classes in person can schedule an appointment or walk in, regardless of insurance. Plus, appointments are only $20. Labs, x-ray services, procedures, and specialist visits have additional fees, but they are usually much more affordable than off-campus care.

Students sometimes think they won't receive a high level of care at Curry because they're skeptical about the quality of care provided at college health centers. However, Curry Health Center is rated very highly: 93% of students said their care was good or excellent. Students consistently leave overwhelmingly positive comments about the staff and the care they receive at Curry.
